Clinician Referral Resource

For Healthcare Providers

A trusted adjunct when your patient is still symptomatic.

For patients who remain in pain, are not sleeping, have residual symptoms after rehabilitation, do not tolerate a medication well, or are seeking conservative adjunctive care.

I work alongside the existing plan of care, within a clearly defined scope, and I communicate back to the referring clinician. This page makes it easy to recognize the patients who are a good fit, and to reach me directly.

When to Think of Valencie

The referral trigger is simple: your patient has received appropriate conventional evaluation or treatment and still has symptoms, or wants an additional conservative approach that can complement the existing plan of care.

Persistent pain. Musculoskeletal pain, chronic tension, headaches, or symptoms that remain after an appropriate course of care.

Residual symptoms after PT or rehabilitation. The patient has improved mechanically or functionally, but pain, guarding, sleep disruption, or other symptoms remain.

Neuropathy or persistent neurological symptoms. Adjunctive care for persistent sensory complaints, discomfort, or functional symptoms after appropriate medical evaluation.

Sleep disturbance. Insomnia or disrupted sleep that is complicating recovery, stress regulation, pain, or overall wellbeing.

Women's health, perimenopause, and menopause. Patients seeking adjunctive Chinese medicine support for menstrual, perimenopausal, menopausal, or related symptom burden.

Stress-related physical symptoms. Patients whose stress physiology is showing up in the body through tension, sleep disturbance, pain, or digestive symptoms.

Medication intolerance. Patients who need additional conservative symptom-management options while remaining appropriately medically managed.

The patient asks. Patients actively requesting acupuncture, Chinese medicine, or conservative adjunctive care alongside their current treatment.

What I Provide

Care is individualized and may include acupuncture, Chinese medicine assessment, herbal medicine when appropriate, cupping, moxibustion, auricular therapy, manual approaches, lifestyle guidance, and body-based regulation practices, within scope and according to the patient's presentation.

What I Do Not Replace

Adjunctive care does not replace indicated medical evaluation, emergency care, diagnostic workup, medication management, physical rehabilitation, psychotherapy, or specialist care. I refer and collaborate when a patient's needs extend beyond my scope.

How We Work Together

A referral relationship that closes the loop. My goal is to be easy to refer to and easy to collaborate with. With the patient's authorization and when clinically appropriate, I communicate concise updates so the referring clinician knows the patient was seen, the general focus of adjunctive care, and whether further evaluation or coordination is indicated.

  1. You refer. Send a patient who fits one of the clinical referral triggers.
  2. I evaluate. I perform an acupuncture and Chinese medicine assessment and determine whether the case is appropriate for my scope.
  3. We treat appropriately. The patient receives an individualized plan built around their presentation.
  4. I refer back when needed. New red flags, diagnostic questions, medication issues, or needs outside my scope go back to the appropriate clinician.
  5. The patient stays at the center. The objective is coordinated care, with each discipline doing what it does best.

A Note on Mutual Referral

I value a strong local care network. I also encounter patients who need physical therapy, psychotherapy, primary care, gynecologic care, orthopedic evaluation, imaging, or other specialty services. I want to know the clinicians I can confidently send them to. If you'd like to be on that list, I look forward to hearing from you so that we may connect.
