An Invitation to Stop Performing Wellness

Wellness has become a performance. A list of things to do, foods to avoid, routines to maintain, supplements to take, habits to track. And somewhere underneath all of that doing, the actual body, the one that is tired and asking for something real, gets forgotten.

I want to offer a different invitation.

What if wellness was not something you performed for an audience, including the audience in your own head? What if it was simply the practice of returning to yourself, again and again, with honesty and care?

In my clinical practice, I see women who are doing everything right on paper and still do not feel well. They are eating clean, exercising, meditating, and taking their supplements. And yet there is a flatness, a exhaustion, a sense that something is still missing. That something is usually presence. The body cannot heal inside a performance. It heals inside a relationship, a relationship with yourself that is honest, responsive, and kind.

Perimenopause has a way of forcing that reckoning. The body begins to shift in ways that no amount of discipline can fully control. The sleep changes. The temperature changes. The mood shifts in ways that surprise you. And suddenly the performance of wellness stops working, because the body is asking for something deeper than a protocol. It is asking to be listened to.

This is where Chinese medicine meets you. Not with a checklist, but with a question. What is your body actually telling you right now? What does it need in this season, not what worked five years ago, not what works for someone else, but what this body, in this moment, is calling for?

The invitation I am extending is this. Stop performing wellness. Begin living it. Come as you are, with whatever is true for you right now, and let us figure out together what your body actually needs.

That is the only wellness practice worth having.
